emp diary// week starting 15th march 2010
This week a lot of my time is dedicated to testing. Still just sorting out all the problems that come with different technology, i.e my camera records in AVCHD. this is still a relatively new way of recording and there has been a few issues with my editing software and viewing tools.
march week starting 08/03./10
still devoting a lot of time for testing here. this new camera is taking up a lot of my time right now. I can visualize what I want to create, or a few things… but there are a number of bits of kit I have had to get a hold of first. learning so much as I go along that it is almost impossible to blog it all.
blog of my first few days of experimenting with my Panasonic Gh1 is coming up.
march diary 1-7 2010
Ok, so this is last weeks diary, I forgot to upload.
regrettably, the co-op is taking up a lot of March for me… this is because I spent my rent money on a camera for this project and now I have to pay my rent somehow.
don’t import cameras
i imported my camera from japan. so obviously all the menus are in japanese., and therefore the error messages as well.
first day, i get the adapter for all my 35mm canon fd lenses… screw one on and turn on my camera. comes up with an error message straight away. sketching, naturally… i called up shina su and got her on it. she said it might have something to do with the camera not recognizing the lens.
so i looked up this problem on the forums and it came up as actually quite a common problem.
you have to go in to the menus and select an option called shoot w/o lens. its basically where i don’t have a digital lens, it isn’t recognized by the camera, so you have to make it shoot regardless of whether it thinks a lens is attached to it.
while i was searching, i saw this flickr account where some guy had posted the translation for some of the menus in to english.
And just for kicks, the rest of the settings menu.
Rough translation of menu items:
1. Set date/time
2. World clock
3. Travel time
4. Function button setting
5. Ecomode (power-saving settings)
Rough translation of menu items:
1. (Grayed out) Auto-review
2. Display highlights (shows the overexposed portions of photos in quick review)
3. LCD adjustments
4. LCD brightness detect mode
5. Scene menu
Rough translation of menu items:
1. Sound
2. Speaker volume
3. Reset numbering
4. Reset settings
5. USB mode
The menu items from top to bottom are:
1. TV aspect ratio
2. HDMI output format
3. Viera Link’
4. Firmware version display
5. Format memory card
The Japanese language version of the GH1 ONLY has Japanese! The “Languages” option is SUPPOSED to come after the option highlighted here. You can see it is absent. Some Japanese manufacturers (namely: Panasonic and Sony) don’t put other languages into the Japanese domestic version of their products. Easy enough to figure out the options with the English version manual available from Panasonic’s website, but it can get confusing in the field when you don’t have time to consult a manual.
