the emp has made me learn loads and made me produce something i can actually show to an employer. because this is the first project of three years to be able to do that, for my website/portfolio/showreel whatever – i will just have my emp video and my details, as i think this is the most basic yet accurate example of the work i am capable of producing at this moment in time.
(michael simpson was taken so i used my middle names instead)
this is the layout i went for. it’s super budget, but so are my html skills. but i guess i could of paid someone good on the course to do it for me, but actually wanted this simplistic style. I think it helps to not distract the viewer from the video.
I did originally upload my video to my webspace, however it buffered really SLOW.
so i chose to just load it through vimeo, removing all the discriptions and titles that come with the embed option. i also changed the colour of the vimeo play bar menu, from blue to white.
here’s what it looked like with the quicktime video embedded. – i think better, but yeh – the slow loading times. and no maximising option.
6th may.
my indislider came today.
i had made a glidetrack for my camera for barcelona, it was pretty budget anyway… made for £15 from stuff in my dad’s garage and some skateboard wheels off a couple of crappy decks i bought down to argos. it was working alright till i took it on location, and it kind of ruined all the shots i had planned for it. and it was heavy and awkward. also didn’t make it to fit on a tripod.
so i came back and just went and bought a manufactured one. it was like £70-£80. but i have decided it is a better decision for long term use, and also ease of transport, and the fact that it actually works well.
although i am pretty angry that i didn’t have it for barcelona, i will be using it in the next week to create some stuff for my showreel.

london
report of london
went to decode exhibit at the v&a museum on friday 12th march.
liked this video based project
the projector was split in to 25 panels, the touch screen below has a camera attached to it, filming the space infront of both screens. the view of the camera – i.e you, is projected on to the panel that you select. and a countdown to 2 second recording of your self is displayed on the screen and from then, the footage is displayed on a loop with the other 24 recorded clips on the projector.
also the planes one… tracks 24 hours worth of flight patterns across north america. different colours for different flight patterns.
whilst strolling around london, we stumbled across another exhibit. called ‘wonderlandism ‘.

it was an old shop that had been stripped out and rented to a group of artists, the had a week to use the space in whatever way they wanted. some of the stuff they had done in there was cool. i liked the illustration that went from the wall to the floor, and also the post it notes that they encouraged you to do what ever you wanted on.
in conclusion, london was interesting. it gave me an insight on how to present work well. which i’m always not brilliant at. ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
