slow motion

using slow motion

i really like the use of slow motion at the moment.it means you get to appreciate some of the aspects of a shot or subject that you wouldn’t usually pick up on.

here’s some stuff i’ve been doing. its all in slow motion… the skating stuff wouldn’t all be in slow if i could be bothered to edit it to only be slow in parts, i.e. the trick. but for now. ill just post them like this.

shooting at 60fps and converted to 24fps in cinema tools.

i can see that there will be some problems with mixing footage and going between slow and normal speed. but i haven’t confronted that problem yet.

i will probably add to this post as i go on and make more stuff.

i accidentally purchased a class 2 sd card – below. but then i realised that i needed a class 6 and also more space so i went and bought 2x 16gb and after dropping my camera and breaking one of the cards somehow, i bought another 8gb class 6.

velbon tripod dv-6000

external microphone

velbon monopod

I have been building this collection over time, and because I have had to wait quite a while for things to come from across the globe, china, america etc. i am a little behind with work. but definitely not ideas… I have been mainly using http://www.vimeo.com for most of my research and comparative analysis for my own ideas. looking at the work of professionals independent film makers, i have been able to assess, through my opinion, what i think is great about what i have seen, from there taking on what i wish to take inspiration from, and discarding bad ideas.
Whilst looking at videos, i have been scanning the comments looking for possible information on videos… i.e what lenses were used, how they gained the effect they wanted etc.

timelapse

i aim to use this technique for experimentation with the ’tilt shift technique’

-look at my earlier blog post concerning this topic.

but i also aim to use this in my project – only where i feel it ads something to the video… not just for the sake of it.
i bought a timer for timelapses. i stumbled across someones work on VIMEO and it led me to this forum post
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/archive/index.php/t-176232.html
here i learnt that there is an alternate and quite clever way to film timelapses without actually filming the whole time. this allows for less data to be used, therefore easier to import footage out.
basically.
(explain how this works exactly when i have got the item and figured it out
here is another forum that helped me chose which one i wanted
http://96.30.23.131/showthread.php?p=1703515

i ended up buying this one

This week a lot of my time is dedicated to testing. Still just sorting out all the problems that come with different technology, i.e my camera records in AVCHD. this is still a relatively new way of recording and there has been a few issues with my editing software and viewing tools.

i saw this video while looking at videos that used my camera and it got me inspired. i love the detail and just the simplicity.

he’s got his camera on a dolly track and its created quite an interesting side to some normal household items.

i picked up a reverse macro adapter on ebay for a couple of quid and here’s some of the first things i’ve done with it.

using my mistuki 28mm f/2.8

i don’t know if i want to persue this as just my project. although i think this is an interesting way of putting across ideas and especially what i aim to do in my final piece, which is helping people relate to things they would otherwise miss.

i want to use it in my final, but i am not sure how i will do this yet.

report of london

went to decode exhibit at the v&a museum on friday 12th march.

liked this video based project
the projector was split in to 25 panels, the touch screen below has a camera attached to it, filming the space infront of both screens. the view of the camera – i.e you, is projected on to the panel that you select. and a countdown to 2 second recording of your self is displayed on the screen and from then, the footage is displayed on a loop with the other 24 recorded clips on the projector.

also the planes one… tracks 24 hours worth of flight patterns across north america. different colours for different flight patterns.

whilst strolling around london, we stumbled across another exhibit. called ‘wonderlandism ‘.

it was an old shop that had been stripped out and rented to a group of artists, the had a week to use the space in whatever way they wanted. some of the stuff they had done in there was cool. i liked the illustration that went from the wall to the floor, and also the post it notes that they encouraged you to do what ever you wanted on.

in conclusion, london was interesting. it gave me an insight on how to present work well. which i’m always not brilliant at. ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
